Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Warriors Table

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a wide array of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces growing in influence within the city.

Warning: Revealing details for the latest installment of this adventure are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of characters who will branch out from the main group to undertake their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team includes Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for players who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.

Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might look out of place, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these five characters are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to go next after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death started the campaign’s events—used the enemy for his own means, breaking into the secret base, assaulting the character, and stealing all the magical artifacts to auction.

Casimir then settled his liabilities and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Cyd pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each character has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and best friend, desires revenge.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to eliminate the target and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • But, their status as key figures in House Halovar could enable the group reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The fighter vowed a eternal obligation to Wicander for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The rogue and The hero are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and The healer betrayed the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the family.

This leaves them little choice but to head to the remote area in quest for the antagonist.

What’s Next?

From episode three’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to form the Explorers and Strategists parties.

Viewers can expect learning which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on next week.
